Standing on the jetty, wondering what’s down below?

Or maybe you’ve been snorkelling around Christmas Island and are now ready to dive deeper into the underwater world.

If you’ve just booked your first Try Scuba Diving experience on Christmas Island, you’re about to tick off a true bucket-list adventure. During your session, we’ll prepare you step by step to explore one of the island’s best dive sites, descending to a maximum depth of 12 metres in a safe and relaxed environment.

Meeting at the Dive Shop

With plenty of parking available, we’ll meet at the dive shop where you’ll be greeted by our friendly and professional team. We always keep our group sizes small — a maximum of four customers at a time — to ensure safety, comfort, and personalised attention for every diver.

We can conduct Try Scuba Diving sessions in multiple languages, including English, Mandarin, Cantonese, French, and German. If you feel more comfortable learning in your native language, just let us know — we’re always happy to have a chat and help you choose the best option.

While you enjoy a coffee at the shop, you’ll complete the necessary paperwork and have time to relax, settle in, and ask any questions before the dive.

Equipment Fitting & Dive Briefing

Your instructor will fit you with full scuba diving equipment, including:

● Mask, snorkel, and fins

● Wetsuit

● BCD (buoyancy control device)

● Regulator and air tank

All equipment is set up and checked by your instructor. We’ll explain how each piece works and what to expect once you’re underwater.

Before heading out, you’ll be guided through the essential skills and knowledge you’ll need, including:

● Basic dive theory

● Underwater hand signals

● Safety procedures

● A detailed dive briefing

All briefings are conducted at the shop in the shade, keeping things comfortable and unhurried before heading to the dive site.

Heading to Flying Fish Cove

Once everyone is ready, you’ll change into your wetsuit, load the equipment into the truck, and drive down to Flying Fish Cove — one of the most popular and beginner-friendly dive sites on Christmas Island.

At the jetty, your instructor will help you gear up and complete final checks before walking to the end of the jetty together.

Entering the Water & Your First Dive

Sitting at the end of the jetty, your instructor will ensure everyone is ready before entering the water one by one. On the surface and in shallow water, you’ll practise a few simple skills to build confidence before starting the dive.

Once everyone is comfortable, we’ll descend together and begin exploring the underwater world.

Dive details:

● Maximum depth: 12 metres

● Air supply: Full 200-bar tank

● Dive time: Most customers spend 45–60 minutes underwater

Your instructor will be with you at all times, continuously monitoring your air, comfort, and safety throughout the dive.

After the Dive

After exiting the water, we’ll return to the shop. You’re welcome to use the outdoor shower to rinse off before heading out and sharing the excitement of your first scuba dive.

Curious about the marine life you just saw? We have a Christmas Island fish identification book at the shop, so you can look up and learn more about the species you encountered on your dive.

What Can I Do After My First Dive?

Many people finish their first try dive wanting more. After your dive, you can:

● Recommend the experience to friends and family

● Enrol in an Open Water Diver course to become a certified diver

● Join our many returning customers who choose to do another try dive

For a second try dive, you won’t need to repeat the skills, allowing you to spend more time simply enjoying the dive.

Do You Take Underwater Photos?

For safety reasons, instructors are not permitted to take photos while guiding uncertified divers.

However, you’re very welcome to:

● Take photos with your phone before entering the water

● Take photos after the dive at the jetty or back at the shop

Tips for Your Try Scuba Diving Experience

● Try scuba dives are only conducted when weather and sea conditions are suitable, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.
