Booking Terms & Conditions

Accommodation & Diving

 

Payment Terms:

 

  • Bookings made 6 weeks or more (42 days) before arrival:

    • ​30% deposit at time of booking, remainder due 15 days before arrival.

  • Bookings made less than 6 weeks (42 days) but more than 15 days before arrival:

    • ​70% deposit at time of booking, remainder due 15 days before arrival.

  • Bookings made 15 days or less before arrival:

    • 100% payment required at time of booking.

  • Agency bookings:

    • As per individual agreement (full payment normally required 30 days before arrival).

Payments

  • There is a surcharge for card payments made via our online payment system, or in person

  • AMEX, Diners Club are not accepted.

Diving Policies: 

 

  • Dive packages will be consecutive days, unless agreed otherwise at time of booking.

  • Extra Divers will endeavour to adhere to the advertised itinerary, however reserves the right to alter the itinerary or cut short the trip in the event of a medical emergency; inclement weather conditions; to suit any necessary operational requirements; or, for reasons involving passenger, crew or vessel safety, at the sole discretion of the Master of the Vessel.

  • A fuel supplement may be charged for all dive bookings from 1/1/2023. (Fuel has risen 35% in 2022)

  • Customers are strongly recommend to purchase comprehensive travel insurance when travelling to Christmas Island to cover contingencies including flight delays, trip cancellation, medical and evacuation expenses etc. Be aware that scuba diving and in-water activities are not covered by all travel insurance policies, so policy wordings should be read carefully to ensure it includes evacuation and medical cover, as evacuation, medical and vessel relocation costs are the financial responsibility of the customer.

 

Standard Cancellation Terms:

 

Cancellation by customer:

 

  • Cancellation 30 days or more before arrival: 75% refund of total price.

  • Cancellation between 30 and 7 days before arrival: 50% refund of total price.

  • Cancellation 7 days or less before arrival: No refund.

Please note this means no refund or compensation will be given for any unused hire equipment, unused dives, prepaid/pre-booked courses or guided trips in the event the customer is unable to, or decides not to, participate after they have arrived.

Card charges that are not able to be cancelled to the company will not be refunded.

​

No refund or compensation will be given for events beyond Extra Diver’s control, including but not limited to customer non-arrival, unused services, unused nights, or additional expenses incurred as a result of airline or weather disruption.

 

Dive packages are non-transferrable to other customers.

 

Cancellation by Extra Divers:

 

In the event the purchased number of dive trips is cut short (or cancelled) by Extra Divers, a refund of any unused dives and associated unused gear hire (but not accommodation) will be offered. Agency bookings will receive a credit rather than a refund.

 

COVID-19 Cancellation Terms  (no longer relevant on all new bookings from 14th October 2022) :

 

If Australian government Coronavirus travel regulations prevent a customer from being able to get to Christmas Island for their booking, all payments (diving and accommodation) are 100% refundable up to 14 days before arrival, and 100% transferable right up until the customer’s scheduled arrival. Extra Diver’s Standard Cancellation Terms apply for cancellations due to any other reason.

Vaccination: Please be aware that proof of vaccination may be required for those eligible, for entry and exit from the Indian Ocean Territories, and use of our services.

This will not be an accepted reason for cancellation or refund of your trip, and any changes will revert back to the standard terms for cancellation.

Diving: Should Extra Divers be required to cease diving operations as a result of government-imposed restrictions and regulations during the customer’s visit, a refund will be provided for unused dives and associated unused gear hire. Agencies will receive a credit rather than a refund.

Accommodation will be charged for on a per night basis while occupied.

​

Customers should ensure their travel insurance covers any unforeseen fees, costs and charges should compulsory quarantine or self-isolation measures or restrictions be implemented during their visit. These charges may include extended or alternate accommodation, sustenance, transport, airfares, medical services etc, the costs for which will not be borne by Extra Divers.

​

"COVID-19 Cancellation Terms" will not apply from the end date of the "declared state of emergency" in the Indian Ocean Territories.

Terms will revert back to "standard cancellation terms"

Travel Insurance: 

 

  • We cannot stress enough to all customers that travel insurance is purchased before travelling to Christmas Island.

  • We don't want to make it mandatory, as it is your choice! However, we are aware that bad weather, delayed shipping, flight cancellations, technical faults, lack of aviation fuel on the island could affect your holiday any time of the year. These are out of our control, and we will charge for services booked.  This may be much more than the insurance.

Image Use/Privacy

  • The customer acknowledges and gives consent for Extra Divers by itself or through an agent to take photographs, audio or video recordings, or other forms of recordings that capture the passenger’s image, likeness, voice, performance or all of these (“Images”) during the course of this activity / tour. The passenger acknowledges and gives consent for Extra Divers to receive and use Images of the passenger from other.

  • Extra Divers may use Images for marketing and promoting its services. The ways in which the Images will be used for marketing purposes include, but are not limited to, incorporating the Images in print, broadcast, internet media, direct marketing channels, downloadable content and applications, and all other media, platform or technology now known or to be developed for distribution around the world. The Images may be altered, modified, changed, combined or incorporated into other works. The images may be published internationally within printed brochures or websites, and hosted in data centres outside of Australia.

  • The passenger has a right to request access to the passenger’s Images and to correction of those Images to ensure they are complete and not misleading. However, the passenger acknowledges that if the Images have been incorporated into marketing materials, it may not be reasonably practicable for Extra Divers o make any changes to the Images. The customer authorises Extra Divers to refuse the request to correction in such circumstances.

 

Mailing lists/ Marketing emails

  • You accept that when you complete the sign in forms, or send us an email, you may be added to a mailing list for marketing purposes.

  • Should you not wish to receive these, please make us aware at the time. You will be able to unsubscribe at any time, after receiving these.

Scuba Diving Certification/ Equipment / 

  • We require all Certified Divers to present a valid Certification Card. Failure to show a Certification Card may result in the customer not being able to dive. This includes but is not limited to dive equipment that varies from standard and any specialty cards needed such as Full Face Mask Distinctive Specialty or Nitrox. Please do not rely on being able to access the internet to download your certification.

  • Our tours are subject to the risks and perils of scuba diving in changeable conditions in an open water environment. We reserve the right, for our customer’s safety and/ or the safety of our crew or other scuba divers, to prevent any customer’s participation in scuba diving if they are deemed physically or medically unfit to do so or in our sole discretion.

  • No compensation is offered if you should be unable to complete all offered dives

  • We strongly recommend a wait of 24 hours before flying after diving.

  • You must not participate in scuba diving or snorkelling whilst under the influence of alcohol or any drugs. We shall have no liability to any customer should they participate in diving or snorkelling whilst under the influence of alcohol or any drugs. We may refuse entry to the water in the event we have reasonable grounds to expect a customer has consumed alcohol or drugs within a timeframe that could, in any way, affect their ability to scuba dive/snorkel safely. Any decision made in this regard will be at the absolute discretion of the Extra Divers.

  • If any equipment or property belonging to us is damaged or lost we reserve the right to charge the customer responsible to make good the damage or loss.

  • To participate in scuba diving/snorkelling, ALL customers are required to agree to, and sign, our liability forms relevant to the activity they will be undertaking.

  • Rental dive equipment used is BCD, Regulator with 1st Stage, Primary and alternate 2nd Stage, Gauges with Dive Computer, emergency signalling equipment, including a high visibility signalling device, for example, a safety sausage; and an audible signalling device (e.g. a whistle). If you are bringing your own equipment you must have at a minimum BCD, Regulator with 1st Stage, Primary and alternate 2nd Stage, Gauges and Dive Computer, emergency signalling equipment, including a high visibility signalling device, for example, a safety sausage; and an audible signalling device (e.g. a whistle). If your equipment varies from this you must contact us prior to travel to verify suitability.

 

Medical Conditions

  • Some medical conditions may preclude a person from diving. Please check the latest medical form on our website (under documents) or contact us for further details.

  • Please note that any medicals required should be completed well before arrival on Christmas Island, as gaining an appointment with a diving doctor may not be possible during your short stay. If in any doubt please contact us prior to your trip departure.

  • Upon arriving at our vessel, and before commencing any dive activities, we will require all customers to complete our liability forms. All information provided must be strictly accurate.

  • If during the tour it becomes apparent that a form has been incorrectly, by omission or false statement, we reserve the right to prevent any customer from undertaking any scuba diving / Snorkelling activities. Any decision made in this regard will be at the absolute discretion of the Extra Divers.

Spoken Languages

  • English is the language spoken on board our tours

  • We have staff than can communicate in various languages, please contact us is you have specific requirements.

  • We in no way guarantee any spoken language other than English, unless otherwise pre-arranged agreement has been made with us.

Liability

  • The laws of Christmas Island, Indian Ocean Territories, (some delegated to Western Australia), apply in relation to these Terms and Conditions and our business.

  • It is a fundamental condition of this contract between you, and/or your client and us, that to the extent permitted by law, we (including our directors, employees, agents and independent contractors) are discharged and indemnified by you /or your client (including by your /or your clients executor(s), administrator(s) and dependent(s)) from any liability for any loss, damage, death or injury whatsoever arising out of, or incidental to, this diving trip and other services provided by us, whether or not such damage or personal injury is caused or contributed to by us.

  • You/or your client acknowledge and agree that:

    • They will be participating in activities, which are undertaken for the purposes of recreation and involve a significant degree of physical exertion and/or physical risk;

    • They are aware of the risks of injury associated with your participation in this diving trip and agree to voluntarily assume such risk; and

    • The use of any equipment hired or loaned by us is entirely at their own risk.

    • Notwithstanding the above, we reserve the right to rely upon any limitation of liability and/or defence available under any applicable law(s) and/or international convention(s) for any claim made by you or your client against us.
